Shift Details:

  • Procedures: Inpatient medical management/rounding, pre and post-operative vascular surgical care, first assisting in OR for vascular surgeries, bedside procedures such as suturing, permcath removal, wound vacs, dressing changes/wound care.
  • Patient Population/Case Load: Adult, geriatric; typical census 15-20 patients total, round on 3-5 patients/day individually, average 7-8 OR cases a day.
  • Case Mix: 100% inpatient, no clinic

Day to day

Average Amount of Call Back Hours: <4 (the call person typically stays about 4-5 hours post shift to cover OR), almost never get called 'back in' after going home (if this occurred would typically be phone call at home with phone/beeper forwarded to cell) Reason for Coverage: FTE coverage while search for permanent Directly cover 5 surgeon's patients and surgeries. First assisting and floor coverage. Dedicated full time team of NPs and PAs who have all been there at least 5 years with minimal turnover.

Practice details

  • Not solo coverage
  • Shift pattern: Shift+Call
  • Setting: 40 hours/week but on weeks with enough staff could potentially accommodate 3 12s for 36 hours. Typical shifts are 7a-5p, 7a-7p, 9a-9p, 7p-7a or any mix thereof depending on staffing needs.

Case mix

  • Practice Setting(s): Inpatient/Hospital Based
  • Required Duties, Procedures, Skills, etc: Inpatient medical management/rounding. Must be comfortable with medical management (diabetes, hypertension, acute illness) as well as pre and post operative vascular surgical care. First assisting in OR for about 5 surgeons. Vascular surgery only, no cross specialty coverage. Must be comfortable with open vascular cases (peripheral bypass, carotid surgery, AV fistula creation, open abdominal aortic surgery). No IR procedures but bedside procedures may include suturing, permcath removal, wound vacs, dressing changes/wound care.

Call

Weekend Requirements: yes, rotating On Call Requirements: in house and beeper Call Ratio: Typically 1-2 days a week
